Product Development

A path to commercialisation

With a focus on medical diagnostic testing, OLM Innovations selects the best ideas from UK universities and leads the development of new products to meet clinical standards. Working across academia and the NHS, we are market facing to secure the necessary investment, validation, commissioning and specialist support to progress new products.

Throughout the product development process we will engage academics, clinicians and prospective buyers in trials to help prepare the route to market. OLM Innovations will also identify prospective licensing partners or appropriate spin-out routes to maintain momentum and avoid any unnecessary delays in taking new products to market.

Our Products

CAspID

CAspID is a multiplex real-time PCR assay developed at the Molecular and Cellular Biology Laboratory at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford, in collaboration with OLM innovations. It rapidly detects Aspergillus and Candida species within one hour of DNA extraction, including specific detection of A. terreus, a fungus that is intrinsically resistant against amphothericin B.  CAspID is being targeted for use as an aid in the assessment and evaluation of patients with suspected Aspergillus or Candida infection.
The CAspID multiplex PCR assay was designed, optimised and validated in strict compliance with MIQE guidelines and is suitable for real-time PCR instruments, using TaqMan hydrolysis probe chemistry.

Aspergillus Proximity Ligation Assay (PLAsp)

The Aspergillus PLA was developed at the Molecular and Cellular Biology Laboratory at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford, in collaboration with OLM innovations. It uses a monoclonal antibody (MAb) JF5 that detects antigenic mannoproteins produced by the fungus during active growth (2) and has been previously demonstrated to detect the Aspergillus diagnostic antigen in human serum and BAL fluids, when utilised in an immuno-chromatographic lateral flow device format (3-9).

Aspergillus Lateral Flow Device (LFD)

In 2011, OLM innovations entered into a strategic partnership with ISCA Diagnostics, a University of Exeter spin-out company established by Dr Chris Thornton, to offer a line of rapid diagnostic tests built around ISCA's patented monoclonal antibodies specific to the human pathogenic fungi Aspergillus, fusarium, Pseudallescheria-Scedosporium complex, Scedosporium prolificans and Trichosporon.
